3. Tourney Mechanics of the Semi-final

Mode of Play

  • In the tournament, each team will consist of 3 to 4 members (for secondary schools, at least two members must be from S1 to S3). 3 of the 4 members will play a single round.
  • A round-tournament will be adopted with 3 to 4 rounds, depending on the number of participants.
  • In Round 1, the teams will be paired up by random draw. After Round 1, the winning teams and defeated teams will form two separate pools.
  • In Round 2, the winning teams and defeated teams will be paired up separately. A winning team will face another random winning team, a defeated team will play against another random defeated team. After Round 2, the winning teams and defeated teams will form two separate pools.
  • The remaining round(s) will follow the same pattern in which the winning teams and defeated teams from the immediate-previous round will be paired up separately.
  • In case the total number of teams is not divisible by 4 (take 30 teams, with 15 winning and defeated teams each after Round 1), one winning team will play against a defeated team in subsequent rounds.

Scoring System

  • A winning team is determined by the number of WINS it chalks up. A team WIN refers to a 3-0 or 2-1 victory.
  • In case of a tie (i.e. both players having the same final scores), the player with the highest score in a single move will win.
  • The winning teams will get 2 points; the defeated teams will get 1 point.
  • A team which draws up an absent opponent will be declared the winner of that round with a 3-0 WIN and a spread of +150 *.
  • After all rounds, the teams will be sorted out in this order as shown:
    1. Teams with the most points
    2. Teams having won the most games (individual WINS of all members of the team in all rounds)
    3. Teams with the biggest spread *
  • The 16 top-ranked teams will advance to the Grand Final.

* spread refers to the difference between the total points scored by two opposing players/teams

Failure to Play

  • Any player who fails to turn up fifteen (15) minutes after the game has started will be deemed to have given up their right to participation.
  • For participants who turn up late but within fifteen (15) minutes and the game has already started, they will be able to join the game upon arrival but will have to continue with whatsoever time is left for that game.
