| 2. Tourney Mechanics of the Semi-Finals |
Mode of Play
- In semi-final, each team consists of 3 members and 1 reserve. Each team shall play 3 games.
- 4 teams will form a group whereby they will play against the other 3 teams. This grouping shall be conducted by random draw under the condition of seed system in prior to the commencement of the Championship.
- Some participating schools are selected as 'seed team' according to their ranking of the previous year. Each group shall consist of one seed team and 3 non-seed teams.
Scoring System
- A winning team is determined based on the number of WINs it chalks up, followed by total spread *. A team WIN refers to a 3-0 or 2-1 victory. After the 3 games, a total of 16 winning teams in each category will be selected for the Grand Final.
- In the event of a walkover, the player without an opponent will be awarded a spread of +50. Once the game has started, for any player who abandons the game, the opponent will get the +50 points spread, or the actual spread at the time of abandonment, whichever is the higher of spread.
- If there is a tie at the end of a game, i.e. both players have the same final scores, the player with the higher score in a single move will be declared the winner for the game.
* spread refers to the difference between the total points scored by two opposing players/teams.
Failure to Play
- Any player who fails to turn up fifteen (15) minutes after the game has started will be deemed to have given up interest in participation.
- For participants who turned up late but within the fifteen (15) minutes period; i.e. the game has already started; they will be able to commence the game upon arrival but will have to continue with whatsoever time that is left running on their timers.
| 3. Tourney Mechanics of the Grand Final |
Mode of Play
- 16 winning teams of each category from the Semi-Finals will enter the Grand Final. All teams will play 4 games on that day.
- Different from the previous years, a Modified Double Knockout System will be applied in the Grand Final. This format has 3 streams: Gold, Silver, and Bronze. As the tournament progresses, the teams/schools are channeled into their respective stream as they progress from one game into the next game. The purpose of this new mode of play is to promote pace learning so that the teams compete with each other of their similar standard. Even in the final game, the weakest team still has a chance to emerge as the winner in their respective stream. The first of all will be awarded the Gold Cup Champion.
- The pairing up of the teams is determined by the final ranking of the individual teams in their Semi-Final. Click
